How to beat bad breath odor? Here are some useful tips!!!

There are several terms to describe halitosis: bad breath, morning breath, breathe odor, but they all usually mean the same, an unpleasant odor exhaled on the breath.

Breath odor is not a serious problem by itself, except in cases when it is caused by some other dental disease(s,) it is not however something that will improve our interpersonal relationships.

Most breath odor is caused by food particles left in our mouths.  These remains are the breeding grounds for the halitosis bacteria.  Among other causes there is poor oral health, periodontal disease, improper cleaning of dentures, and of course smoking.  Sometimes it can be caused by stomach, lungs or bloodstream disease.



There is also a disease called xerostomia, or dry mouth, that may be a result of alcohol consumption, certain medications, salivary gland disorder, or breathing though mouth instead of nose.  As a consequence our mouth is left without its natural mouthwash that reduces bacteria.

Through the years lots of ways to freshen breath were invented.  Here are some of them.

It is recommended to brush your teeth and tongue after every food intake in order to remove food remains from the mouth.  The tongue needs attention because it can trap thousands of bacteria on the tiny hairs.

Regular professional dental care is necessary to avoid gum disease and to control overhanging filings, or leaking crowns, which can trap food particles.

After having a meal, chew sugarless gum or suck on sugarless lozenges for stronger saliva flow.  It is best to avoid breath mints and mouthwashes containing alcohol.  If your mouth is dry, drink more water.

Chlorophyll is also known as a natural breath freshener.  Snacking on parsley, celery, or carrots will help to keep plaque from forming.

For the disinfection of the oral cavity you can apply few drops of peppermint or tea tree oil.

The main rule is not to eat foods that can cause bad odor (f.e. onions, garlic) before going to an important meeting or on a big date.

Researches show that alcohol and caffeine consumption dry the mouth as well as smoking.  So it is better to quit these bad habits and your breath will certainly become more pleasant.

  7. Not sure if it'll be effective for you guys, but my method has been effective for the past years. All I do is simply brush my teeth after using dental floss. Also, being careful with the food you take in is a huge help as well since certain food could really cause bad odor smell in your mouth. From time to time, I would also visit my Omaha cometic dentist for dental cleaning just to make sure that my teeth are really clean.
