Enemies of a Bright Smile

Teeth are given to us by nature for the purpose of chewing food. For today’s society, however, they are used as more than just an instrument for food consumption. A bright smile is a very important part of physical appearance. After all, your smile is one of the aspects that most effect people’s first impression of you. Moreover, a bright smile gives confidence when interacting with people.

To have healthy teeth, it is necessary to comply with dental hygiene. However, in order to have white teeth, dentists also recommend avoiding eating certain foods that can darken your teeth. Below is a list of foods and beverages that can be the reason for discolored teeth.

Foods:

  • chocolate
  • foods that have deep colors such as beets
  • some fruits like blueberries and strawberries
  • popsicles and slushies
  • soy sauce
  • tomato sauce
  • curry

Drinks:

  • coffee
  • black tea
  • soft drinks
  • red wine

· juices loaded with rich coloring such as cranberry

Foods such as chocolate and popsicles are also loaded with sugar. That is why chocolate can cause cavities and tooth decay. Also with regard to coffee and tea- they are the most harmful drinks for teeth. Unfortunately, too many people have a habit to start their day with a cup of coffee that is not conducive to white teeth.

Another habit detrimental to a bright smile and healthy teeth is smoking. Cigarettes quickly stain your teeth brown and yellow and most dentists believe that cigarettes are the greatest enemy of a bright smile.

However, if you don’t want to sacrifice some of your favorite foods just because they can stain your teeth, all you need to do is pay more attention to dental hygiene and you can counteract those effects. You must floss often, brush your teeth after every meal, and visit your dentist regularly. If you want to indulge in your favorite foods and beverage and do the three things mentioned, you'll still be able to have the white and healthy smile you desire.
